What is a group family daycare?
A group family daycare is a residential setting that provides compensated childcare services for more than three hours a day. It is managed by a primary caregiver and at least one assistant.
What distinguishes group family daycare from center-based childcare?
We are able to provide your child with more attention than they would receive in a center, due to a smaller staff-child ratio. Our environment is designed to resemble a home, allowing children to build personal relationships with one another and our staff.
How do you encourage children to cooperate with each other?
At Grace’s Group Family Daycare, we organize group activities that incentivize working together and building positive relationships. Participating in groups gives children the opportunity to practice following social rules, and we reward positive behavior towards other children and staff.
How do you handle challenging behaviors?
Our response to difficult behavior from a child will depend on the situation, but in most cases, timeouts will be the appropriate response. The American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes timeouts as the most effective means of discipline. After the timeout, we will explain to the child why their behavior was inappropriate.
How do you help children solve problems?
I begin by helping the child identify the problem, then list potential solutions, evaluate them, choose an option, and then act on it. If there is a disagreement between children, I would intervene and mediate.
How do you adjust your disciplinary techniques for different age groups?
Discipline techniques vary depending on the age group of the child. Corporal punishment is not used. We employ various approaches that are effective and appropriate for each age group.
What are the qualifications of your staff?
Our staff must be certified by New York State to work with children, in order to provide a secure and enriching environment. They regularly attend meetings and workshops to stay up to date with the latest knowledge and techniques.
